Chairman’s Message
Society Overview
The Executive Committee consists of (no less than) five members who are voting members of the Society. The Chair, Vice Chair will serve for three years, with other posts being in place for one year. At the discretion of the Executive Committee two extra members may be co-opted onto the Executive committee in an advisory capacity only, for a maximum term of one year.

Duties and Meetings
The Executive Committee have control of the property and affairs of the Society and agree its policies. The Executive Committee declare the holding of office in other societies which could be deemed a conflict of interest.
Structure & Meeting overview – frequencies / format
The Executive Committee will hold not less than four regular meetings during the year at times and places to be fixed by the Chairman. Special meetings may be called by the Chairman or by any three members of the Executive Committee which constitutes a quorum.

Principle officers for the SVHSoc are shown below and undertake the day to day running of the society.
With more than 40 years of experience in building services, Derek specialises in healthcare and works across both the NHS and private sectors, with expertise in medical gases and water safety.
He has served as an AE(v) on several major healthcare projects, including the £1.6 billion Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Sandwell, Birmingham, where he oversaw quality and compliance and witnessed and validated the commissioning of critical ventilation systems, including UCV and conventional theatres, PPL isolation rooms, imaging suites, and endoscopy suites.
Although healthcare is his main passion, Derek also brings broad experience across power generation, chemicals, district heating, retail, and education.
Mike Dunne is Vice Chairman of the SVH Society. Mike has over 20 years’ experience in Engineering, with the past 16 years focused on healthcare projects delivered across three continents. He is technically specialised in UCV operating theatres and is experienced in the design, validation, and verification of critical ventilation systems.
In his current role at Stantec, Mike is appointed as AE(v) for several NHS Trusts and a major private healthcare provider in the UK. Alongside his AE(V) duties, he manages team members within Stantec’s MEP team and actively contributes to the wider industry.
His industry support includes an annual guest lecturing position at a UK university with the Year 4 Building Services cohort and works related to the Engineering Council. He is committed to developing people within the sector and promoting professional excellence.
